The foundation's 2019 award budget

The Foundation board has approved the award budget for 2019. Thus, the Foundation (AUFF) is already now able to announce the tools which will be available in 2019 for research at Aarhus University.

Generally, the Foundation board has chosen to give AUFF Starting Grants and AUFF NOVA a higher priority, while other tools will be downgraded. This was decided in order to strengthen the strategic recruitment of research talents, also internationally, and in order to strengthen the growth layer and durable ideas.

AUFF Starting Grants
AUFF Starting Grants for assistant professors and associate professors will continue, and full calls and guidelines will be published in the beginning of 2019. The Foundation board has decided that applications may also be submitted for professors. The budget has been increased from DKK 47.5 million to DKK 60 million in 2019.

AUFF NOVA
In 2019, AUFF NOVA is once again prioritised with a budget of DKK 30 million. AUFF NOVA aims to stimulate the launch of high-quality bold and innovative research projects which may typically have difficulties getting support from other sources. The project shall establish new paths and have the potential for scientific breakthroughs. A full call and guidelines will be published at a later date.

AUFF Flagships
AUFF will launch a new tool in 2019: AUFF Flagships. A full call and guidelines will be published at a later date.  These will be research projects of an extraordinary calibre with significant impact and innovative strength.

Publication support
Publication support will be changed and will target international publications. Thus, there will be an application pool and direct support to Aarhus University Press for strategic project development. A full call will follow.

Support for the conduct of PhD seminars, research group meetings, workshops and summer camps at Sandbjerg Estate
Applications may be submitted on a continuous basis. The objective is to provide financial support for payment of PhD seminars, research group meetings, workshops and summer camps at Sandbjerg Estate, thus reducing the self-payment of the participants.

Research stays in Møllehuset
Researchers may apply for a grant covering research stays in Møllehuset at Sandbjerg Estate.

Scholarships
For each faculty, there will be framework funding in 2019 that shall cover expenses for scholarships, including scholarships for PhD students in the 3 + 5 scheme, scholarships for PhD students in the 4 + 4 scheme or research year students, in accordance with the stipulations covering the main subject area. The PhD schools in the respective main subject areas shall administer the framework funding.

Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies
Finally, AUFF will continue to support the operation of the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies. See further information regarding the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies.

The visiting researcher pool, internationalisation of the PhD programmes, mobility grants, additional pool and micro-grants
The visiting researcher pool, internationalisation of PhD programmes, mobility grants, the additional pool and micro-grants will be eliminated from the Foundation’s tool box due to the prioritising of AUFF Starting Grants and AUFF NOVA. Please contact AUFF’s administration for extension of ongoing grants with residual amounts.
