Original criteria for Starting Grants are maintained

AUFF has received a number of enquiries about who can be considered for the new Lecturer and Senior Lecturer Starting Grants at the Aarhus University Research Foundation.

The foundation’s intentions with the Starting Grants are to support the most talented lecturers and senior lecturers by giving them a good start in their position at Aarhus University. This means that the position at the time of application must be relatively new. This was the basis for the latest announcement on the AUFF website, stating that applicants must have been employed as lecturers or senior lecturers at AU since 1 January 2014 at the earliest to be considered for a Starting Grant.

We have subsequently received much, wholly justified criticism for this change in the original call for applications shortly before the deadline. Add to this that many departments have had to introduce an employment freeze for the positions in question due to the implemented cost-cutting process. Many new employees would therefore have been precluded from applying.

On this basis AUFF has decided to maintain the original call for applications and thus not limit the opportunities for applying for Starting Grants in 2015. A new and more targeted call for applications will apply for application deadlines in 2016 and onwards, which are expected to include demands that the positions in question must be relatively new.

In 2015 the pool for Lecturer Starting Grants will comprise a total of DKK 28 million, whereas the pool for Senior Lecturer Starting Grants will comprise a total of DKK 30 million.

We are sorry for any confusion that has arisen in the process.
