AUFF Starting Grants 2020

With AUFF Starting Grants, the Aarhus University Research Foundation wishes to strengthen the growth layer and thus secure outstanding researchers good career opportunities at Aarhus University. AUFF Starting Grants are intended for international recruitment to developmental areas with a view to establishing new independent research areas and research groups. The AUFF Starting Grants target group is newly hired assistant professors/researchers, associate professors/senior researchers and professors. For all three groups applies that the employment must be 1 August 2019 or after.

Applications for AUFF Starting Grants can be submitted continuously through the year when negotiating new appointments/recruitments. The application must come from the head of department and must be recommended by the dean. In addition, there are two annual application rounds.

The application rounds in April and October are for newly hired assistant professors/researchers, associate professors/senior researchers and professors and aimed at growth areas at Aarhus University.  It applies to all three groups that for the application round in April applicants must be employed by 1 August 2019 or hereafter and for the application round in October applicants must be employed by 1 February 2020 or hereafter.

The applications are prioritised by the deans and heads of department prior to the decision on the awarding of grants. Grant recipients are expected to apply for other external funding.

In 2020, there is a total of DKK 50 million for the AUFF starting Grants.

 

Grant size:

 

·         Assistant professors/researchers: up to DKK 2.4 million over a three-year period

 

·         Associate professors/senior researchers: up to DKK 4 million over a three-year period

 

·         Professors: up to DKK 5 million over a three-year period

 

Deadlines for application in 2020:

 

·         Friday 1 May 2020 at 12 pm CET (noon) - (originally 1 April, but moved due to the current situation) 

 

·         Thursday 1 October 2020 at 12 pm CET (noon)

Corona update - 16 March 2020
In light of initiatives to constrain the spread of the corona virus, which includes that most public servants have temporarily been sent home, the Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF) postpones the application deadline from 1 April 2020 (12 noon) to Friday 1 May 2020 (12 noon).

Employees of AUFF and the Central Talent Development Unit at AU, which functions as secretariat for AUFF, have been sent home and have been asked to work from home.

However many of the tasks related to receiving and handling the applications will, as far as possible, be performed as usual, and applicants and grant holders can still contact the Secretariat via phone (+45 21 62 49 21, between 10am and 2pm) or e-mail (toe@au.dk).
