The foundation's 2020 award budget

In general, the board of directors in 2020 has decided to continue prioritising AUFF starting Grants and AUFF NOVA. The decision has been made to strengthen the strategic recruitment of research talents, including internationally, and to strengthen the growth layer and the strong ideas.

In 2020, the funds are as follows:

AUFF starting grants

AUFF starting Grants for assistant professors, associate professors and professors will continue, and the full advertisement as well as the guidelines will be been annonunced at the beginning of 2020. The budget is 2020 DKK 50 million.

AUFF NOVA is prioritised in 2020 with a budget of DKK 30 million. The aim of the DKK AUFF NOVA is to stimulate the initiate of daring and innovative research projects which are of high quality, but which will also have difficulties in obtaining support from other sides. The project must be based on new paths and have the potential for scientific breakthroughs. A full advertisement as well as guidelines will be published in the first half of 2020.

Flexible PhD programmes
The instrument is a replacement for the Scholarstipendierne, which is now targeted solely towards flexible PhD courses, including 3 + 5, 4 + 4 and the research year, etc. The overall framework is in 2020 DKK 15 million, which is distributed equally between the five faculties via a framework grant.

Publication support
Publication support is still targeted at international publications, which means that there will be an application pool and direct funding for Aarhus University Press for the strategic development of projects. In 2020, the application pool will be lifted by DKK 1 million. DKK 2.5 million. The application pool is a priority for funding for ground-breaking been cations, with special emphasis on highly-estimated international publication channels, primarily large foreign publishers. Funding is still available for high-quality publications published by Danish publishers. An advertisement is expected to continue with a deadline in February and September. 

A total of DKK 5 million has been allocated in 2020 for a new tool with a view to mobility. This is a pool for international activities, including comprehensive visiting researchers and outbound mobility for the university's researchers. An advertisement with terms and guidelines will be published in the spring of 2020.

Support for PhD courses, research group meetings, workshops and summer camps at Sandbjerg Estate
It is still possible to apply for funding on an ongoing basis. The purpose of the project is to provide funding for PhD course stays, research group meetings, workshops and summer camps on Sandbjerg Estate, in order to reduce the cost of the participants ' contributions. The overall framework is DKK 2.5 million.

Research stay at Møllehuset
Researchers may continue to apply for scholarship stay at Møllehuset at Sandbjerg Estate.

Research stay in Husumgade
As something new, researchers will be able to apply for scholarship stay at the foundation's apartment in Husumgade in Copenhagen from the spring of 2020.

Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies
Finally, Aarhus University Research Foundation will continue to support the operation of Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies.

AUFF flagships
The AUFF will continue the new instrument AUFF flagships. A call for applications is expected to be advertised in the course of 2020 with anticipated grant in 2021. These are research projects of an extraordinarily high standard with significant breakthrough power and innovative strength.
