New subsidiary of the foundation

Aarhus, November 5, 2013

PRESS RELEASE

After 28 years as an autonomous foundation Aarhus University Press (Aarhus Universitetsforlag) now changes ownership. Aarhus University Research Foundation (Aarhus Universitets Forskningsfond) has just taken ownership of Aarhus University Press. With the ownership embedded in a well consolidated, private business foundation the publishing house is thus guaranteed a stable group of owners.

Aarhus University Press was established in 1985 with the objective of  ”advancing the dissemination of research results and results of other technical and academic activities from Aarhus University”.

Since the beginning of 1985 the publishing house has published more than 1400 titles. Throughout all the years, the publishing house has had its focus on scientific literature and science propagating publications. The common denominator for all publications is that they are strongly rooted in science.

In connection with the new ownership, there has been a generational succession in the management as the former Deputy Manager, Carsten Fenger-Grøndahl, has been appointed General Manager.

A Safe Haven with Promising Prospects

”Aarhus University Press has played – and continues to play – a central role in the dissemination of research from Aarhus University. Now the time has come to find a safe haven with good prospects for the future. Aarhus University Research Foundation is the ideal owner, as the publishing house now becomes part of a foundation, whose objective likewise is to further scientific research at Aarhus University”, says professor Ole Øhlenschlæger Madsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Aarhus University Press.

Jørgen Lang, Director at Aarhus University Research Foundation, explains the background for the new ownership as follows:  ”Aarhus University Press enhances the other activities of Aarhus University Research Foundation, as the objective of the foundation is to further scientific research at Aarhus University. Aarhus University Research Foundation has already invested in other companies, who support the objective of the foundation. There is an excellent correlation with Aarhus University Press, who will act as a window to the outside world”.

Aarhus University Research Foundation

The foundation was established in 1944 with the objective of supporting scientific research at Aarhus University.

Throughout all the years, Aarhus University Research Foundation has also invested financially in bonds and stocks, and the return from these investments helps secure the ability of the foundation to support scientific research at Aarhus University. In 2012 this support totalled DKK 88 million. The foundation i.a. supports the dissemination of research done at Aarhus University.
